I firmly believe that the body innately knows how to heal and how to stay healthy, all we need to do is to stay out of its way.
The most effective way I’ve found to support my well-being is by keeping it simple. Really really simple.
So simple that the ingredients list is often an item of just 1. Simple in the sense that many of these protocols or substances are available, affordable, and sometimes even free. Simple in the sense that the body knows exactly how to process these substances for overall health.
Each of these items is more powerful than you might initially think.
Collectively, they become the catalyst for a thriving way of being.
1. Oil Pulling Before Brushing
Kickstart your morning with an ancient practice that’s as simple as swishing oil around your mouth.
Oil pulling, particularly with coconut oil, can be a game-changer for oral health. It’s believed to pull out toxins, leading to fresher breath, whiter teeth, and healthier gums.
Just swish it around for 5-20 minutes before your regular brushing routine.
The oil acts as a surfactant that lifts plaque and residue from the surface of your teeth. This gentle daily cleansing is great for overall gum health and also for those with receding gum lines.
2. Adding Charcoal to Toothpaste
For a brighter smile, add a bit of activated charcoal to your toothpaste and see the difference!
Charcoal is known for its ability to absorb impurities and can help in removing surface stains from your teeth. Just remember, a little goes a long way!
Whenever I buy a new toothpaste, mix some of it with a tiny amount of activated charcoal and store it in a tub.
This blend of toothpaste and charcoal keeps my teeth whistle without worrying about thinning enamel. It is a gentle but potent trick that prevents coffee and wine stains from permanently stunning our teeth.
3. Using Diatomaceous Earth
This fine powder made from the fossilized remains of tiny, aquatic organisms called diatoms can be a gentle exfoliant for your skin and a non-toxic cleaner for your home.
It’s also used by some as a natural way to detoxify the body internally, though it’s always best to proceed with caution and do your research.
Just a half teaspoon in the morning and at night is a wonderful wellness practice. It doesn’t taste like anything and can be added to most foods. Or drinks. Affordable, accessible, and potent.
4. Eat Raw Ingredients Minimally Processed
Transform your diet by embracing foods in their most natural state.
Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds, also known as Single Ingredient Foods retain the highest levels of their nutritional content, offering your body a wealth of vitamins, minerals, and enzymes.
Not to mention that SIFs (Single Ingredient Foods) contain less chemically created ingredients, food colorants, or preservatives.
I have a funny term for this kind of eating: simple naked food.
My meals typically only consist of 6 ingredients or less.
As much as possible, each ingredient is unprocessed. This includes snacks, breads, sauces, spreads, pates, and dairy products.
Each ingredient should only contain that one ingredient, or as close to that criteria as possible.
Consuming foods in their original form with the least amount of processing is easier on the digestive system and vital processing organs like kidneys, liver, and even sodium, and blood sugar levels.
Last but not least, single-ingredient foods are much cheaper than the alternatives.
Less processing means it’s more affordable. Win/Win!
5. Regular – Weekly, Monthly, and Seasonal Water Fasting
Incorporating fasting into your routine can help give your digestive system a rest and promote cellular repair processes.
Our bodies have two settings; digesting or repairing. For at least a couple of hours after we’ve eaten, most resources go to digestion.
When not digesting, all the body’s resources can go toward optimizing processes, eliminating dead cells, repairing tissues, and boosting our immune system. In other words, it’s like a pit stop
The longer we fast, the deeper the cellular reset.
It’s a practice as old as time, believed to rejuvenate the body and mind.
Whether it’s a one-day water fast or a 40-day fast. Stay hydrated, be prepared, proceed with caution, and allow your body to do what it knows to do best; be healthy
6. Drink Your Functional Mushrooms as a Tea
Brew yourself a cup of tea using functional mushrooms like Chaga, Reishi, Cordyceps, or Lion’s Mane.
These fungi are celebrated for their potential to support immunity, reduce stress, and enhance mental clarity.
Plus, sipping on a warm cup of mushroom tea is a comforting ritual to add to your day.
If you can’t decide which functional mushroom you prefer you can use our Mushroom Essential Blend to make yourself a very rich and soothing drink.
7. Epsom Salt Bath or Foot Bath
Magnesium is best absorbed through the skin. Not to mention that magnesium is used up when we metabolize coffee and or are managing stress. In other words, the vast majority of us are magnesium deficient.
Free medicine? Soaking in an Epsom salt bath, or even just a foot bath if you’re short on time or space, can be incredibly soothing for sore muscles and a stressed mind.
The magnesium in Epsom salts can help relax your body and support better sleep.
8. Olive Oil Face/Body Oil
After many years of dealing with severe acne, I have decided to only put on my face the purest of products. Basically, if I would not eat it, I would not let my skin absorb it.
High-quality olive oil is great in the kitchen as an unprocessed superfood, and it also multitasks as a fantastic, all-natural moisturizer for your skin. Packed with antioxidants and hydrating squalene, it’s perfect for a DIY face or body oil.
9. High-quality Celtic Sun-Dried Salt
In my opinion, salt has a bad reputation and needlessly so. Sodium and unprocessed salt are truly not the same.
High-quality, sustainably sourced, and minimally processed pure salt is more than a cooking ingredient, it’s most definitely a superfood.
Swap your regular table salt for Celtic sun-dried salt.
Rich in vital essential minerals and lower in sodium, it’s a small change that can make a big difference in managing your mineral intake and enhancing the flavor of your meals.
10. Daily Accomplishment Log/Journal
Last but certainly not least, my personal favorite tool for life optimization: keeping a daily accomplishment log or journal.
Taking a few minutes each day to jot down your achievements, no matter how small, can boost your mood, increase your gratitude, and help you track your progress towards your goals.
If you finally sent that email after 3 days, write it down.
If you moved to another country, write it down.
If you got through a tough conversation, write it down.
If you didn’t lose your temper, write it down.
If you paid someone a compliment, write it down.
Like a weather report, we are listing the facts. Including them all, big or small.
This daily list of achievements is a factual reminder to stop beating ourselves up. Instead of punishing ourselves and running on cortisol and adrenaline.
Let’s acknowledge and support ourselves and run on dopamine, serotonin, and self-confidence.
Basically…
Investing in your health doesn’t have to break the bank.
With these nearly free yet effective tools, you can start making positive changes today.

That’s amazing CJ, well done!
Love that you are on top of it.
Are there others that you can recommend that I left out?

I find the title misleading – most of these are not free.
Hi Kelly,
That’s a bummer.
Here are my thoughts on each of the recommendations I make in the article:

charcoal – very affordable
diamataceous earth – very affordable
minimally processed food – free/cheaper than processed foods
water fasting – free
drink mushie tea – assuming already purchased mushroom capsules
epsom salt bath – very affordable
olive oil – often a kitchen staple
