There’s something magical about sleeping like a teenager, isn’t there?
What is it about the passing of years that can sometimes reduce our overall quality of sleep?
Sooner or later, many of us learn the difference between just sleep and actual restorative sleep and how it impacts our overall well-being.
When we sleep, our brains go through 5 different stages. The first two stages take us from a wakeful state into a drowsy state ready for deeper sleep.
Stages 3 and 4 are when our brains go into delta waves.
Finally, the fifth stage is when REM sleep (Rapid Eye Movement) happens and memory and learning are consolidated.
In The Zone
To wake up feeling fully refreshed, we need to access stages 3 and 4.
“In stage 3, very slow brain waves called delta waves are interspersed with smaller, faster waves. By stage 4, the brain almost exclusively produces delta waves. Delta waves promote immune function and help us feel restored. During deep sleep, the body repairs muscles and tissues stimulates growth, and boosts immune function.”
Examine.com explains it best by emphasizing that Reishi might have sedative properties; able to induce relaxation but not inherently increasing REM sleep time.
Reishi appears to increase overall sleepy time and reduce sleep latency, the amount of time it can take to fall asleep.
Of Mice and Mushrooms
In 2021, there was a medical study published on the impact of Reishi mushrooms on the sleep of mice.
The study above draws the correlation that the mice taking Reishi appeared to sleep longer and also experienced better sleep quality overall.
Historic Clues and Current Data
Reishi has been used for over 2,000 years as a tonic for overall well-being and more recently its potential ability to improve sleep is being studied more thoroughly.
We cannot claim with absolute certainty that Reishi holds such potent sleeping powers, and yet, so far these are the correlations that are starting to form.
Only One Way to Know for Sure
First, get the okay from your doctor, then source a Reishi product that has been dually extracted for maximum potency and bioavailability.
Look for a product that has gone through hot water (aqueous) and also alcohol (ethanol) extraction, or just order from us here.
I can personally report that Reishi has improved my overall quality of sleep but don’t take my word for it.
Good sleep is a non-negotiable. We all know that when we sleep better, literally everything in life feels better.
As always,
Sleep well. Shine bright. Do good. Flow strong.
