How To Use Shilajit: A Quick Guide

Originally written by Asha Sultana

About this article Human Pro sells the products mentioned in this article, so this is not an independent review. Our editorial policy explains how we work.

Take one pea-sized portion of Shilajit resin (250 to 500 mg) once a day, dissolved in a glass of warm water, tea or milk. That is the serving printed for Human Pro Shilajit, and the label is the reference. The resin does not dissolve well in cold liquid, so the liquid needs to be warm.

Below, each question gets its own short answer, based on the label of Human Pro Shilajit resin and its published batch report.

Key facts

  • One serving is a pea-sized portion of 250 to 500 mg, once a day.
  • The label lists three liquids for that serving of 250 to 500 mg: warm water, tea or milk.
  • A 50 g jar holds 100 servings at 500 mg, so it lasts at least 100 days.
  • Shilajit batch MSR002 measured lead at 0.023 mg/kg against an EU maximum of 3.0 mg/kg (Eurofins report AR-26-KV-009191-03).

How much shilajit should you take per day?

The label serving for Human Pro Shilajit resin is one pea-sized portion, 250 to 500 mg, once a day. That is the whole daily amount: one serving a day, not one per meal. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose printed on the label.

Any portion within that range counts as one serving. The label gives no build-up schedule, no second serving and no separate amount for men or women, so this article does not add one either.

What the label says, in one table:

Label item What it says
Serving One pea-sized portion, 250 to 500 mg
How often Once a day
Liquid Warm water, tea or milk
Not in Cold liquid, where it does not dissolve well
Pack 50 g jar with a scoop spoon; also sold in 100 g and 150 g jars
50 g jar lasts At least 100 days

How do you take shilajit resin, step by step?

To take Shilajit resin, dissolve one pea-sized portion (250 to 500 mg) in a glass of warm water, tea or milk, once a day, and drink it. Those three liquids are the only ones on the Human Pro label. The resin does not dissolve well in cold liquid, so let the liquid be warm.

  1. Warm a glass of water, tea or milk.
  2. Use the scoop spoon from the jar to lift out one pea-sized portion.
  3. Stir the portion (250 to 500 mg) into the warm water, tea or milk until it has dissolved.
  4. Drink the glass, and close the jar straight after use.

Searching for how to eat shilajit or how to consume it on its own? The label describes one way only: dissolved in warm water, tea or milk. It gives no instruction for any other drink or food, so we give none.

One serving goes into one glass. The label does not split the serving over the day.

How do you measure one serving?

Measure one serving of Shilajit resin with the scoop spoon that comes with the 50 g jar: lift out a portion about the size of a pea. That portion is the label serving of 250 to 500 mg. You do not need a kitchen scale, because any portion in that range is one serving.

A few practical points:

  • Use the spoon that came with the jar, so the portion stays the same from day to day.
  • Keep the spoon dry before it goes back into the jar, because the storage line asks for a dry place.
  • Put the lid back on straight after you take your portion.

If you want to see what one portion looks like, compare it with a pea rather than with the bowl of the spoon. The label gives the serving as a pea-sized portion, not as a spoonful.

Can you take shilajit with water, tea or milk?

Yes. The Human Pro label lists three liquids for Shilajit resin: warm water, tea or milk. Dissolve one serving (250 to 500 mg) in a glass of one of them, once a day, and drink it once the resin has dissolved.

Cold liquid is the one thing to avoid, because the resin does not dissolve well in it. A glass poured straight from the fridge is too cold.

Which of the three you choose is up to you; the serving stays the same in each. The label says warm and gives no exact temperature.

The label names no other drink or food. That is why this article gives no other way to take the resin, and why you will not find blends, mixes or other preparations here.

When should you take shilajit: morning or night?

The Human Pro Shilajit label says once a day, and our product page notes that most people take it in the morning. No time of day is required. Taking it at the same time each day makes it easier to remember, so pick a moment that fits your routine and keep to it.

Does it need an empty stomach? The label says nothing about meals, so we do not add a rule.

Missed a day? The label still says one serving a day, so the next day is one serving too.

Can you take it every day? The label gives one serving a day and no break schedule, and it does not state a period of use. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

A daily phone reminder at the time you picked makes it easier to remember.

How long does one 50 g jar last?

A 50 g jar of Human Pro Shilajit resin lasts at least 100 days at one serving a day. At the top of the label range, 500 mg, the jar holds 100 servings. At the bottom of the range, 250 mg, it holds 200 servings.

The calculation, from the jar size and the label serving:

Serving size Calculation Servings per jar Days at one serving a day
500 mg 50,000 mg divided by 500 mg 100 100
250 mg 50,000 mg divided by 250 mg 200 200

A jar used at portions between the two lasts between 100 and 200 days. The 100 g and 150 g jars hold twice and three times as much resin, so the same arithmetic gives them twice and three times as many servings. Writing the opening date on the lid makes it easy to see how far into the jar you are.

How should you store shilajit resin?

Store Shilajit resin closed, in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. That is the storage line on our product page for Human Pro Shilajit. A kitchen cupboard away from the stove and kettle fits it; a sunny windowsill does not.

Does shilajit expire? The jar carries a best-before date, printed on the pack next to the LOT number. We do not recommend starting a jar after that date.

Close the lid straight after each serving, so room air and moisture stay out. Keep the jar out of the bathroom too, where the air is often warm and humid.

Should the jar go in the fridge? The storage line asks for a cool, dry place, not a fridge. Our product page also notes that the resin firms up in the cold and softens in the warmth, so a cold jar is harder to scoop.

How can you check what is in your jar?

Check your jar by matching the LOT number on the pack to the batch report on the Shilajit test results page. The LOT number is printed next to the best-before date. Human Pro does not make Shilajit: it is bought as finished resin, collected at around 4,000 metres in the Indian Himalayas.

The resin is purified and filtered, with nothing added: no fillers, carriers or flavourings.

Every batch is tested by Eurofins at the source, before it ships.

Home tests you may read about online cannot show heavy metals or other contaminants. Only a lab report can.

What should you check before you start?

Before your first serving, read the label on your jar. Look at three things: the serving of 250 to 500 mg, the line that says not to exceed the recommended daily dose, and the warnings. Check the best-before date too, printed next to the LOT number.

Then read the next section, which says who should not use Shilajit and when to ask first. It applies to every jar, whatever the batch.

Keep the jar where you will see it each day, but out of the reach of young children. Note the LOT number somewhere too, so you can find the batch report later even when the jar is empty.

If anything on the label is unclear, email hello@human-pro.com with the LOT number of your jar. We reply within five working days.

Who should not use Shilajit, and when to ask a doctor

  1. Do not use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
  2. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose of one pea-sized portion (250 to 500 mg).
  3. Do you take medication? Ask your doctor or pharmacist before you start.
  4. Stop using it and contact your doctor if you feel unwell while taking it.
  5. A food supplement is not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
  6. Keep out of the reach of young children.

What to do next

Check the LOT number and the best-before date on your jar, and keep the jar in a cool, dry cupboard. Keep to one pea-sized portion a day, as the label says.
