Asha’s Top 5 Sleep Sounds

Sleep sounds

For whatever reason, some of us love listening to the sound of distant voices or sounds when sleeping.

There is something comforting about a melodic buzz of music or voices somewhere in the background.

If you’re anything like me and need something to listen to at night, then let me share my top 5 sleep sounds with you.

1. Tara Brach Podcast

Listen on Spotify

Tara Brach, a renowned psychologist and meditation teacher, this podcast show offers guided meditations and talks that touch on mindfulness, compassion, and emotional healing.

Her voice is so gentle she creates such a nurturing environment. Her show is not sponsored and does not have any commercial breaks which is another thing I love about it..

Brach’s podcast episodes are perfect for those who want guided relaxation or a soothing distant voice to fall asleep to.

2. Sounds of SAND (Science and Non-Duality) Podcast

Listen on Spotify

The Sounds of SAND Podcast explores the intersection of science, spirituality, and philosophy. Their choice of guests is always on point and the topics are deep and thought-provoking.

The tone is soft, slow, measured and centred.

If you want to learn more about SAND then check out their website for some amazing independent films and documentaries.

3. Huberman – NSDR (Non-Sleep Deep Rest)

Listen on Spotify

Who hasn’t heard of Dr. Andrew Huberman?!

He’s a very popular neuroscientist and professor that hosts a well-respected podcast show. In one of his episodes about sleep, he explains the power and importance of Yoga Nidra, also known as Non-Sleep Deep Rest (NSDR).

Not long ago, he released his own guided NSDR sessions on Spotify

These guided sessions help the listener achieve a state of profound relaxation, not unlike meditation but designed specifically to trigger certain brain wave states therefore making us feel recovered and well-rested.

He’s got a great voice and his calming instructions are ideal for those who need a quick, effective way to unwind and boost their sleep quality.

For more traditional NSDR (aka Yoga Nidra) this podcast by Ayla Nova is my personal favourite.

4. Marconi Union – Weightless

Listen on Spotify

Described by scientists as one of the most relaxing pieces of music ever created, Marconi Union’s “Weightless” is a highly crafted blend of sounds and rhythms.

This 8-minute track was released on 16 October 2011 in collaboration with Lyz Cooper, of the British Academy of Sound Therapy, and Radox Spa with tones that are designed to induce a trance-like state.

This track even made the Time magazine‘s list of Inventors of the Year describing it as “the world’s most relaxing song.

Watch the video to add a whole other dimension to the sounds created.

5. Max Richter – Sleep

Listen on Spotify

Max Richter’s “Sleep” is not just an album; it’s a carefully composed eight-hour lullaby designed to be listened to while you sleep, and the 4 million monthly Spotify subscribers seem to agree.

On his website, Richter confesses that this project is his personal exploration into how music interacts with consciousness and that perhaps we’ve lost a shared communion in sound.

This is a masterpiece and a labour of love. He simply calls it a lullaby.

Background Noise

The types of sounds we find soothing are just as unique as the reason. Why we listen to something when sleeping is just as individual as what we listen to.

I know someone who listens to PsyTrance music while they sleep. Which is totally fascinating to me.

There’s a genre known as ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response) that is immensely popular globally, but also not for me.

Others might like to play frequency music or listen to audiobooks.

And if you really need extra help with your sleep, maybe experiment with some dually extracted high-potency Reishi mushroom extract.

It’s non-psychoactive and benefits are noticed over time and on a cumulative basis.

What do you listen to if anything? Tell us in the comments below.

There are very few things that are more important than good sleep, so be sure to get yours.

As always,

Flow strong.

Asha ✨
