Flevoland Lion’s Mane: From Farm to Oral Spray

About this article Human Pro sells the products mentioned in this article, so this is not an independent review. Our editorial policy explains how we work.

Human Pro's lion's mane is grown on our farm in Flevoland, the Netherlands. Everything from the substrate to the extract happens on that farm, by one team. Our capsules use the fruiting body, and every batch extracted on our farm is tested before release by the farm's QC laboratory, Fungal Development Europe.

This page follows that route from substrate to capsule, with the values of one released batch.

Key facts

  • Flevoland, the youngest province of the Netherlands, is land reclaimed from the sea, and our farm sits inside a wind park there.
  • We make our own substrate on the farm from regional by-products, such as wood chips from nearby forests and egg shells from a neighbouring chicken farm.
  • Substrate, growing, harvest and extraction happen on one site, by one team.
  • Human Pro Lion's Mane is made from the fruiting body, never mycelium grown on grain.
  • Lion's Mane batch 894258 was released on 12 September 2026 with certificate COA-LM-894258-01.

Where is Human Pro's lion's mane grown?

Human Pro's lion's mane is grown on our farm in Flevoland, the Netherlands. Flevoland is the youngest province of the Netherlands, land reclaimed from the sea. Lion's Mane and Reishi are both grown and extracted on our farm, so the place where the mushroom grows and the place where it is extracted are the same.

Our farm sits inside a wind park in Flevoland. Every step from substrate to extract happens on that one site, by one team. A batch number therefore leads back to one farm.

The extract from that farm goes into our Lion's Mane capsules. One serving is 3 capsules of 420 mg extract each, and a pack holds 90 capsules.

When you check where a lion's mane supplement comes from, look for two answers: where the mushroom grew, and where it was made into an extract. For our Lion's Mane, both answers are the same farm in Flevoland.

What is our lion's mane grown on?

Our lion's mane grows on a substrate, the material a mushroom feeds on, not in soil. We make our own substrate on the farm from regional by-products: sawdust and wood chips from nearby forests, grain husks, leftover brewery yeast and egg shells from a neighbouring chicken farm.

Grain husks are one of those by-products. What goes into our capsules is the harvested fruiting body, never mycelium grown on grain.

How is lion's mane grown, from substrate to harvest?

Lion's mane grows in two stages, like other cultivated mushrooms. The mycelium, a network of fine threads, grows through the substrate before anything shows on the surface. The fruiting body then forms on the outside: the white, shaggy mushroom that is picked at harvest.

Our head grower, Wouter, spent more than fifteen years learning Japanese growing and extraction methods. The same team does that work on one site in Flevoland.

The fruiting body is the part we harvest, and it is the only part our extract is made from. A label should name the part of the mushroom it uses. Ours names the fruiting body.

What happens between harvest and capsule?

After harvest, our lion's mane fruiting bodies are extracted on the same farm in Flevoland. The result is a whole-mushroom extract, which goes into pine-cellulose capsules of 420 mg each. A serving of 3 capsules gives 1,260 mg, and one pack holds 90 capsules.

Because the extract is made where the mushroom grew, the batch number on the pack covers one site, from substrate to extract. The next section shows what the certificate of one such batch reports.

Weighing capsules against powder or a tincture? Our comparison of mushroom supplement formats shows what one serving holds in each format.

How is each batch of our lion's mane tested?

Each batch of our lion's mane extract gets a certificate before release, with a method and a specification next to every result. Every batch extracted on our farm is tested before release by the farm's QC laboratory, Fungal Development Europe. Eurofins analysed our Lion's Mane extract in May 2024 (report AR-24-HE-153105-01).

The table shows five rows from the certificate of Lion's Mane batch 894258.

Verification: batch 894258, produced 23 August 2026, released 12 September 2026; match it to the LOT on your pack. Certificate COA-LM-894258-01, Fungal Development Europe QC laboratory. Full certificate: Lion's Mane lab results and certificates.

We publish a certificate for every batch, with the method and the laboratory next to each result, and we leave earlier batches online.

How can you trace your pack back to the farm?

You can trace a pack of Human Pro Lion's Mane to its batch with the LOT number. The LOT number is printed on the back of the pack, next to the best-before date. You can look that batch up on our test-results page, where each certificate names the batch and its release date.

Our mushroom capsules carry a best-before date 24 months after production. A pack from an earlier batch still has its certificate online, because we leave earlier batches published.

Three steps take you from the pack to the farm:

  1. Find the LOT number on the back of the pack.
  2. Open the Lion's Mane test results and find the batch with that number.
  3. Read the production and release dates, and the laboratory, on that certificate.

Store the pack as the label says: in a cool, dry and dark place at room temperature, tightly closed. Our guide to storage and shelf life explains why heat and moisture matter for a pack of capsules.

Who should not use lion's mane, and when to ask a doctor

  1. Do not use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
  2. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose of 3 capsules (1,260 mg).
  3. Do you take medication? Ask your doctor or pharmacist before you start.
  4. Stop using it and contact your doctor if you feel unwell while taking it.
  5. A food supplement is not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
  6. Keep out of the reach of young children.

Update history

  • 20 October 2026: We rewrote this article in full. It now follows our lion's mane from substrate to capsule, using the facts on our farm page and the values from a published batch certificate.
