Shilajit and Ashwagandha KSM-66: what is in this collection?
Our herbal collection contains the two products that are not mushrooms: purified Himalayan Shilajit resin and Ashwagandha KSM-66. Each is made from a single raw material, clearly identified, with nothing added.
What is Shilajit?
Shilajit is a natural resin that forms over centuries as plant matter and minerals compress in high-altitude rock. Ours is collected in the Himalayas at around 4,000 metres, purified and filtered rather than heat-dried, and sold as pure resin in a 50 g jar - not as a powder or capsule, where it is easier to dilute.
Because genuine Shilajit is rare and expensive to collect, much of what is sold online is diluted, powdered or untested. That is why we buy it as resin, purify it without heat-drying and publish the certificate of every batch.
What is Ashwagandha KSM-66?
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a plant from Ayurvedic tradition. KSM-66 is an extract made from the root only, without leaves, and standardised to 5% withanolides. A serving is two capsules of 300 mg (600 mg) with a meal.
Root-only matters because many cheaper ashwagandha extracts include leaves, which have a different composition. The standardisation to 5% withanolides means every capsule contains a consistent amount.
How are our Shilajit and Ashwagandha tested?
Every Shilajit batch is tested at the source by an independent laboratory before it ships: for fulvic acid, the marker laboratories use to tell genuine Shilajit apart, and for lead, cadmium, mercury and arsenic against Regulation (EU) 2023/915. The Ashwagandha is tested for its withanolide content and screened for heavy metals. The certificates are published on our test results page and our Shilajit test results page.
How do I take Shilajit and Ashwagandha?
Shilajit: dissolve a pea-sized portion of 250-500 mg in warm water or tea, once a day; a 50 g jar lasts 100 to 200 days at that amount. Ashwagandha: two capsules a day with a meal. Shilajit has a strong, earthy taste and smell, which is normal for the pure resin. Do not exceed the recommended daily amount of either product.
Can I take Shilajit and Ashwagandha together, or with mushrooms?
Yes. Many customers take Shilajit alongside their mushroom extracts, and the two herbal products can be taken side by side. Keep to the recommended serving of each, and consult a healthcare professional first if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or take medication - Ashwagandha in particular is not suitable for everyone. Both are vegan and gluten-free. Looking for mushrooms instead? See the mushroom collection.
Why are Shilajit and Ashwagandha in one collection?
Because neither is a mushroom: both are single, traditional raw materials that we source outside our own farm and test before release. Shilajit comes from the Himalayas, Ashwagandha KSM-66 from the root of the plant. They follow the same approach as our mushroom range - one clearly identified ingredient, no fillers or additives, and published lab results - so you know exactly what you are taking.
