How To Use Shilajit: A Quick Guide

Have you ever been asked to explain what Shilajit is and where it comes from?
Well, allow me to explain it to you so that when you are asked, you too can then explain it to others.
Over a number of centuries, something phenomenal happens deep in the Himalayan mountains.
Plant matter decomposes under pressure and to eventually be transformed into a resin-like substance and then seeps from the rocks during warmer months.
This resin is known as Shilajit and highly valued for its mineral-rich properties.
The Slow Alchemy of Nature
Shilajit is described as a natural phytocomplex and is the result of an incredibly slow and natural process.
It takes hundreds of years for certain microorganisms to break down specific plants. This by-product, aka resin, is therefore loaded with minerals and nutrients.
While Shilajit can be found in other mountain ranges outside of the Himalayas, such as the Andes and Tibet. It’s the Indian Himalayas who are credited for producing some of the purest and most potent forms.
We at Human Pro, source our Shilajit from altitudes above 4,800 metres in the Himalayas giving our customers access to the most pure and potent product available out there.
What Makes Shilajit Special?
Let’s talk more about what makes this resin so rich in nutrients.
Shilajit is rich in fulvic acid, a natural compound that helps the body absorb nutrients more effectively.
Not to mention that it contains a wide range of trace minerals that support overall health.
Our Himalayan Shilajit is independently tested by third parties confirming its potency, providing you with an excellent and effective product.
How To Use Shilajit
Getting Started
The recommended daily dose is between 300 and 500 mg.
Most people prefer taking it in the morning on an empty stomach to support energy and focus, but it can also be taken later in the day for recovery.
If using it in the evening, avoid taking it within two hours of bedtime, some people have reported feeling a subtle energy boost.
Different Ways to Take Shilajit
First and foremost, Shilajit is potent not only in nutrients but also in flavour, meaning it doesn’t taste great. It has a strong sharp flavour that is not necessarily appealing, at first.
Eventually, you might get used to the taste, but until then, here are a few ways you can make this potent resin more palatable for daily consumption.
Dissolving in Water
A classic method of consumption is to dissolve Shilajit in lukewarm water. I will urge you to avoid using boiling water, as high temperatures can reduce the potency of its active compounds.
Mixing with Milk
If the taste of Shilajit is too strong for you, then mixing it with warm milk can be a great option. Milk, whether dairy or plant-based, helps mask the earthy flavour.
Adding to Tea
Alternatively, Shilajit can also be added to herbal tea. Again, be sure to let the tea cool to a drinkable temperature before mixing it.
Blending in Smoothies
For those who start the day with a morning smoothie, adding Shilajit is an easy way to incorporate it into your routine. This is a great way to get your dose without tasting the strong resin flavour.
Combining with Honey
A great way to take Shilajit is to mix it with raw local honey. This combo creates a paste that you can take directly or mix into drinks and also masks the strong flavour nicely.
Things to Keep in Mind
As far as Shilajit goes. It’s the cumulative effect that we are after. Most people start noticing effects within one to two weeks of daily use. Regular, moderate doses tend to be more effective than occasional larger doses.
A single jar of Shilajit (50 grams) typically lasts around 100 days when used as directed.
When to Avoid Shilajit
While Shilajit is safe for most people, certain individuals should consult a healthcare provider before using it:
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women
- Individuals with low blood pressure
- Those with allergies to Shilajit
- People taking medication for chronic conditions or blood pressure
Shilajit and Other Supplements
If you want to stack Shilajit with other supplements, our functional mushrooms such as our Mushroom Essentials Complex or Pure Focus, complement each other quite nicely.

Would like to know more about the harvesting and “regrow” both for Shilajit and the wild harvested muchrooms?
Hi Erik,
Shilajit is not regrown, as the article says: “Over a number of centuries, something phenomenal happens deep in the Himalayan mountains. Plant matter decomposes under pressure and to eventually be transformed into a resin-like substance and then seeps from the rocks during warmer months.” This decomposition creates a resin that is called Shilajit.
As for as our mushrooms are concerned, you can have a read of this article on how we grow and extract our functional mushrooms. https://human-pro.com/extraction-process/
Let me know if you have any questions,

I’ve purchased your shilajit product a few times and like it. I just mix it with lukewarm water and drink it in the morning on an empty stomach. It has an earthy, tarry taste which I actually really like!
Hi Patrick!
Haha, yeah. All of us at HP had the same experience.
The first couple of times, the flavour took us aback, but then we quickly got used to it, and now we enjoy the taste just as it is.
Welcome to the team! 💫
